The promulgation of the Motu Proprio Summorum Pontificum of Benedict XVI, who de jure but not de facto liberalized the use of the Roman rite, has produced a significant increase in Italy, as throughout the world, the number of celebrations following the venerable Missal of S. Pius V, and, day by day, we see ever more clearly the trend towards further development of these celebrations, despite the stubborn resistance of bishops and priests rebel papal authority. Hath been made, so necessaria, e per la nuova temperie in sé e per l’iniziativa richiesta di fedeli e di molti sacerdoti soprattutto delle nuove leve, una solerte edizione non solo di libri liturgici, Messali da altare e Messalini quotidiani e festivi, Breviari, spesso ristampe di “classici” insuperati, ma anche di altri sussidi che aiutino il popolo di Dio a partecipare alla S. Messa con devozione e in cosciente unione con l’ alter Christus e di testi più impegnativi destinati alla formazione del clero che col rito tradizionale vorranno offrir il Santo Sacrificio.
Un compito difficile, questo, che si è in buona parte assunto la benemerita casa editrice Fede & Cultura di Verona che ha già al suo credit several prestigious publications, in its collections of essays and spirituality [...].
Now, this book bears the subtitle service traditional altar in the Roman Liturgy, and which uses a flattering foreword by Card. D. Castrillon Hoyos, the cardinal that so much has been expended and lavish in his role as President of the Pontifical Commission "Ecclesia Dei" to follow is not easy to solve problems raised by the "motu proprio", ed'una afterword by Don Konrad zu Lowenstein's Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter.
The authors are young people united not only by bonds of friendship and love for the liturgy traditional, the attitude to theological studies and experience, even professional level, music and singing. [...]
... I say now that it is an instrument that actually felt the need, given that the long exile of the Roman rite had spread the blanket of oblivion on the traditional liturgy even in the simplest practical , serve as a mass read, role, except honorable exceptions of religious congregations "traditionalist" and lay confraternities and associations, well-organized groups, only the older solid refresh memory and knowledge are still able to take place with some care in compliance with the sections.
The order that the authors are proposed, then, is what to compile a balanced " handbook of 'traditional altar boy '" and offer "good the Catholic culture that has come to the liturgy a valuable and concise introductory work " .
[...] Still, one must give way, and gladly, that the outcome of this compendium goes well beyond the scope indicated by their excess reduction.
The text is full-bodied (more than 270 pages), dense, enriched by a remarkable and well-selected bibliography and footnotes, and places the most minutely prescriptive altar service, previsto per le varie cerimonie, in un rigoroso e documentato quadro storico-teologico-liturgic o, sapientemente delineato ed articolato, che affronta e discute con vigile critica anche le questioni poste dal Magistero tradizionale e da quello più recente, in particolare di Pio XII, del Vaticano II letto alla luce dell’ermeneutica della continuità difesa dal Pontefice felicemente regnante.
Solo a scorrer i titoli dei capitoli si comprende come il discorso si ampli oltre i propositi iniziali ed apra interessanti ed invitanti finestre sulla vita esteriore ed interiore della Chiesa: dall’architettura e dalla struttura dei sacri edifici alla musica sacra ed al canto, dal conversi ad orientem ai libri liturgici into force in 1962, the language of "sacred" to the priestly ministry, orders major and minor characteristics of the various rituals of the Mass to the comparison between the apparatus of rubrical Vetus Novus Ordo and so on. Each chapter, then, is to provide a historical basis to those ministers, theological and liturgical essential to fully comprehend the depth, even in their mystical symbols, gestures, prayers, furnishings, vestments, so that they can provide a service, is set to read than to sing, competent and religiously relived.
The book, therefore, is not just a handbook the "altar boy" and even an introductory footage, although substantial, sibbene a real organic liturgical manual for easy reading even in a dictation always felt in its specificity, but because of its stature and complexity, rather than to the altar boys, as good culture, appears to me likely to mature in charge of service at the altar in churches where they already celebrated the Rite of St. Pius V, trainers already adequately equipped or at least not ignorant of doctrine and liturgy, who, like me, you will learn a lot, certainly much more than needed to be able to instruct "acolytes". Furthermore, I believe that the appropriate recipients are also priests accostan that for the first time the Roman rite diocesan seminarians and young people, by the will of the Pope, should (and I use conditional regard) learn to celebrate according to that rite, and of course the faithful who They want to penetrate deeper into the 'height theological and spiritual meanings for a more conscious use of S. Mass in its genuine essence of praise to the Trinity SS.ma of satisfattorio and propitiatory sacrifice, the sacramental renewal of the Passion and Death of the Redeemer.
A heartfelt thanks therefore to the publisher and young scholars to doubt that this gift will be appreciated at its true worth by whom the Church feels it is a devoted son and committed. And thanks to a fervent wish to join a well-deserved widespread.
